About TimeInUK
Who runs TimeInUK
TimeInUK is an independently owned and operated website, built and maintained in the UK. It is not affiliated with any government department or official body. Our goal is simple: to answer everyday UK time and date questions faster and more clearly than anywhere else, with free, easy-to-use tools.
How we keep our data accurate
Our live clocks read the current time from your own device and apply standard UK time-zone rules - GMT in winter and BST in summer - updating every second in your browser. Fixed dates such as bank holidays, school term dates, daylight-saving clock changes and exam results days are checked against official UK sources including GOV.UK and the relevant exam boards, and reviewed regularly, especially around each year change.
Our Portsmouth heritage
TimeInUK was created by a Portsmouth-born founder - which makes its subject feel especially fitting. Portsmouth has a remarkable place in the history of public timekeeping: it is where a Royal Navy time ball was first put into action in 1829, one of the world's first modern public visual time signals, helping ships set their chronometers accurately. In a small way, TimeInUK continues that same idea in digital form.
